Getting Started
Yes, completely free! The Free plan includes unlimited manual transactions, one budget per account, all budget categories, smart categorization, basic spending insights, Money Coach (5 messages/day), and 24 months historical data. No credit card required to get started.
No, our Free plan requires no bank connection - you can add transactions manually. If you upgrade to Waypoint Plus, you can securely connect 1 bank account through Plaid for automatic transaction syncing. Waypoint Pro allows 5 bank connections shared across your entire household. Your credentials are encrypted and never stored on our servers.
Simply click 'Get Started Free' and sign up with your email. No credit card required for the Free plan. Once signed in, you can create your first budget, add categories, and start tracking your expenses immediately. Money Coach is available to guide you through the setup process.
Yes! Waypoint Budget works as a mobile app on both iPhone (iOS) and Android - no App Store or Google Play download required. It's a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can install it directly from your mobile browser to your home screen for a full app experience with offline support, push notifications, and faster loading. On iPhone: tap the Share button in Safari and select "Add to Home Screen". On Android: tap the menu and select "Install App" or "Add to Home Screen". Works on all devices with a web browser - no separate app download needed.
Banking & Account Features
Waypoint Budget integrates with 10,000+ financial institutions across North America through Plaid, including all major US banks (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi) and Canadian banks (TD, RBC, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC). Plus members can connect 1 bank, and Pro members can connect up to 5 banks (shared across their entire household) for automatic transaction syncing with secure encryption.
Your transactions sync automatically! When your bank notifies us of new transactions, we automatically sync them in the background (respecting cooldowns: 15 mins for Plus/Pro, 60 mins for Free tier). You can also manually sync anytime with one click from the Transactions page. No monthly limits - just smart rate limiting to prevent abuse. Syncing is instant and pulls your latest transactions directly from your bank.
Checking, savings, credit cards, investment accounts, and retirement accounts (401k, IRA, RRSP, TFSA, RESP, etc.). You can add transactions, categorize contributions and withdrawals, and monitor your balances for all account types.
Absolutely. All data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard SSL/TLS encryption. We use secure cloud infrastructure with enterprise-grade security measures. We never sell your data to third parties. You maintain full ownership of your financial information and can delete your account and all data at any time.
Waypoint Budget uses USD (US dollars) as the default currency for US users. All budgets, transactions, and reports are displayed in USD. Pricing is US$7.99/month for Plus and US$12.99/month for Pro.

Money Coach is your personal budget assistant. It analyzes your spending patterns, provides personalized budgeting advice, answers questions about your finances, suggests ways to save money, and helps you achieve your financial goals. Free users get 5 messages per day, while Plus users enjoy unlimited conversations.
Yes! All users get smart automatic categorization. The system learns your spending patterns over time and automatically categorizes transactions based on merchant names and transaction details. You can manually categorize transactions and use bulk categorization to quickly organize uncategorized expenses. Free users have a rate limit of 5 categorization requests per minute, while Plus and Pro users enjoy 20 requests per minute.
Yes! With Waypoint Pro, you can create a household and invite family members to share budgets, transactions, and financial goals. The household owner (Pro subscriber) can send email invitations, and family members can join for free - no Pro subscription required to be a member. Your Pro subscription covers the entire household, giving all members access to connect banks (up to 5 banks total across the household). All household members can view and manage shared budgets together, making it perfect for couples and families managing finances collaboratively.
Both Free and Plus plans allow one budget per account. This keeps your budgeting simple and focused. You can track all your transactions, categories, and financial goals within your single budget. Use categories to organize different spending areas like groceries, entertainment, savings, etc.

The Calendar view provides a visual timeline of your budget due dates and recurring expenses. See your budget items displayed on a calendar, identify when bills are due, and plan for paydays. It helps you visualize your budget commitments throughout the month based on the due dates you set for each budget item.
Net worth tracking (Pro feature) gives you a complete picture of your finances. It automatically pulls balances from your connected bank accounts and detects tax-advantaged accounts like 401(k)s and IRAs. You can also manually add assets (property, vehicles, investments) and liabilities (mortgages, loans). A visual breakdown chart shows your assets vs liabilities, and your net worth history is tracked over time so you can see your progress month over month.

Waypoint Plus (US$7.99/month) includes 1 bank connection with automatic syncing and unlimited Money Coach messages. Waypoint Pro (US$12.99/month) includes everything in Plus, plus up to 5 bank connections, net worth tracking with 401(k)/IRA/Roth IRA/HSA balance tracking, household sharing - allowing you to invite family members who can connect banks and collaborate on finances together without needing their own subscription.
No! If you have Waypoint Pro, your subscription covers your entire household. Family members you invite can join for free and connect their bank accounts (up to 5 banks total across the household). Note: Waypoint Plus does NOT include household bank sharing - only the account owner can connect banks with a Plus subscription. Upgrade to Pro to share bank connection benefits with your household.

Yes, you can change your plan anytime with no penalties or fees. Upgrades take effect immediately, giving you instant access to Plus features. If you downgrade, you will retain Plus features until the end of your current billing period, then transition to the Free plan.
Yes! New users get a 7-day free trial of Waypoint Plus when they first upgrade. Try bank connections and unlimited Money Coach messages risk-free. No charges during the trial period, and you can cancel anytime. If you cancel during your trial, you'll keep access to Plus features for the full 7 days - giving you time to change your mind and upgrade if you'd like. If you don't cancel, you'll be charged at the end of the 7 days. Each user is eligible for one trial.
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Payments are processed securely, and we never store your payment information on our servers. All transactions are encrypted and PCI-compliant.
If you're not satisfied with Waypoint Plus, contact us at support@waypointbudget.com within 7 days of your subscription for a full refund. Refund requests after 7 days are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and we'll work with you to find a solution.
Privacy & Data
Never. We do not sell, trade, or share your personal financial data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your privacy is paramount. We only share data when legally required or with your explicit consent. Revenue comes from subscriptions, not data monetization.
All data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure with automatic backups, encryption at rest and in transit, and enterprise-grade security measures. We use SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure and follow industry-standard data protection practices. You can delete your account and all data at any time.
Your conversations with Money Coach are stored exclusively in your browser local storage and are never saved to our servers or database. This means chat history is device-specific and will be cleared if you clear your browser data. Messages are sent to Google Gemini AI for processing but are not retained after response generation.
Yes! All users can export their financial data to JSON format for backup or use in other applications. We believe in data portability - you own your financial information and can take it with you at any time.
You can delete your account anytime from your Profile settings. This will permanently delete all your data from our database, including budgets, transactions, categories, savings accounts, goals, and chat history. This action is irreversible, so make sure to export any data you want to keep first.
Troubleshooting & Support
Click the "Sync Transactions" button in the Bank Connections section on your Transactions page to pull your latest transactions. If syncing fails: 1) Check that your bank connection shows as active (no error messages), 2) Verify your accounts are enabled for syncing in Bank Connections, 3) Try disconnecting and reconnecting your bank, 4) Ensure your bank credentials haven't changed. If issues persist, contact us at support@waypointbudget.com with your bank name, and we'll help troubleshoot.
