1. Enter Your Income

Tell us how you get paid

It's one simple sentence: how much you take home and how often. Monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, and semi-monthly schedules are all supported, and you can change it anytime. If you're paid bi-weekly, you can optionally set your next pay date so Waypoint Budget can anchor your pay cycle.

I get paid $2,250 every 2 weeks

$2,250 × 2 paycheques = $4,500/month (conservative estimate)

2. Pick a Budget Template

Start with a template, customize from there

Choose from five templates designed for different life stages, or start blank. Amounts automatically scale to your income, every category is editable, and one-tap chips add popular extras like Subscriptions or Pets. Try it below.

3. Set Financial Goals

Optional but powerful

Add savings goals (emergency fund, vacation, down payment) or debt payoff targets (credit card, student loan). Each goal tracks your progress over time with monthly contributions.

Emergency Fund
Savings • $400/mo
$10,000
target
Fully funded in about 2 years at $400/mo
Vacation Fund
Savings • $200/mo
$3,000
target
Funded in 15 months at $200/mo

Goals are optional. You can skip this step and add them later from the Goals page.

4. Review & Start Tracking

Preview your budget before saving

Review your complete budget with all categories and goals. Make any final adjustments, then save. Start adding transactions manually or connect your bank (Plus plan). The Money Coach will provide insights as you go.

FAQs

What if I go over budget in a category?
+
Don't panic! Going over budget is normal, especially in your first few months. Look at where you overspent, adjust your budget for next month, or find another category to reduce.
Can I track multiple bank accounts?
+
Yes! The Plus plan includes one bank connection, which brings in every account at that bank (chequing, savings, and credit cards). The Pro plan supports up to five bank connections. All transactions sync to one place automatically.
How do I budget with irregular income?
+
Use your lowest monthly income from the past 6 months as your budget baseline. When you earn more, allocate the extra to savings or debt.
Is my financial data secure?
+
Your data is encrypted both in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Bank credentials are handled by our SOC 2 certified providers (Plaid and Flinks). We never see or store your login details. We never sell your data to third parties, and you can delete your account and all data anytime.
