2026 TFSA Contribution Limit: $7,000

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has officially announced that the Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) annual contribution limit for 2026 will remain at $7,000, unchanged from 2024 and 2025.

Key Facts:

  • • 2026 Annual Limit: $7,000
  • • Total Cumulative Room (2009-2026): $109,000
  • • Announced: November 2025
  • • Effective: January 1, 2026

What This Means for Canadians

Starting January 1, 2026, Canadians can contribute up to $7,000 to their TFSA. This marks the third consecutive year at this contribution level, following the limit remaining at $7,000 for both 2024 and 2025.

Total Contribution Room

If you were 18 or older in 2009 (when TFSAs were first introduced) and have never made a TFSA contribution, your total available contribution room in 2026 will be $109,000:

  • 2009-2012: $20,000 ($5,000 × 4 years)
  • 2013-2014: $11,000 ($5,500 × 2 years)
  • 2015: $10,000
  • 2016-2018: $16,500 ($5,500 × 3 years)
  • 2019-2022: $24,000 ($6,000 × 4 years)
  • 2023: $6,500
  • 2024-2025: $14,000 ($7,000 × 2 years)
  • 2026: $7,000

Why $7,000?

The TFSA contribution limit is indexed to inflation and rounded to the nearest $500. The CRA reviews inflation annually to determine if the limit should increase. With inflation stabilizing, the limit has remained at $7,000 for three consecutive years.
